How far is the school from the station and how far from the centre?
The
school is only 5 minutes walk from the nearest station, Gipsy Hill Railway
Station. It is 20 minutes by train from Gipsy Hill to Victoria Station,
in the centre of London. Crystal Palace is also a main bus station.
You can catch buses to many other parts of the city, including the city
centre, Bromley and Croydon, which are major shopping centres. top
2. Can the school arrange transport
from the airport?
Yes,
we can arrange transport. Students may find it cheaper to use public
transport or a registered taxi. We also arrange transport to and from
the airport for groups. top
3. What type of host family accommodation does ELT
provide?
All
our host families are regularly visited and checked. We know how important
staying in a friendly secure environment is, and we make sure that is
what we provide. top
4. Why should I choose ELT?
We
have an excellent reputation as a caring, fun place to study with very
good teachers. If you find a school cheaper than us we think you should
carefully check the quality of the lessons before paying. If you choose
a more expensive school, and there are many of them, you must ask what
you get for the extra money and then decide if you want to pay that
much money for the extras. top
5. Does the school have its
own library?
The
public library, which is much bigger than most school libraries, is
only a 2 minute walk from the school, so we do not have our own one.

6. Will I get free medical
treatment in England?
Not
necessarily, it depends on the seriousness of your condition. Also dental
treatment is not free and can be very expensive. You are strongly advised
to take out your own medical insurance before arriving. top
7.
Can I send and receive E-mail from the school?
Yes.
Full- time students can arrange to send and receive E-mail at the school
at times when the office is open. There is a charge and students usually
have to book. top
8. How much money will I need to live on?
This
is difficult to answer because it depends on how you want to live. You
need to remember that London is an expensive city. For example, rent
for a single room would be £50-70 (and you share bills), supermarket
shopping for one person for a week could be about £25 and a zone
3 transport ticket for one day is just over £4.00. top
9. Once I have enrolled at
ELT, can I stay longer?
Yes,
of course. Visas can also be extended from the UK, this is not usually
a problem. top
10. When can I start the course?
In
the summer you can start any Monday. Through the rest of the year you
should start at the beginning of the term in September or January. If
the group is not full, you can join later but you will be joining a
group that has already started working together. top
11. Can I get a job while
I am studying?
If
you have a student visa, you can apply for a work permit to work for
up to 20 hours per week. If you are already in the UK, you can apply
in a job centre for the permit. The school can help you with the forms.

12. If I do not get a visa, what happens to the money
I have already paid?
Students
showing original documentation of proof of refusal and cancelling in
writing a minimum of 2 weeks before the course starts, will receive
a 50% refund of tuition fees paid. No refunds can be made once a course
has begun. No accommodation fees can be refunded. top
13.
How can I enrol?
Complete
the 'application for enrolment' form and post, fax, e-mail or bring
it to the school. If you need a form, please write, phone, fax or e-mail
for one. top
14.
How can I pay?
Fees
should be paid by bank-to-bank transfer or by travellers cheques or
by personal cheque if drawn in sterling on a London bank. All bank and
exchange charges must be paid in advance by the sender.
